Domesticity: Saucy Apples

Today we ate our last quart of applesauce, reminding me that I want to make more applesauce next year.

"Domesticity" is the name of my new blog series in which i will detail some of the domestic experiments around the house. While i hope someone will find it helpful, it's also a chance for me to keep better notes about what worked & what flopped ( :

Mom, Mandi & I sauced apples last fall.

a break for hummus

good company!

the paring knife queen-Go Mom go!

So, the details:
-Used Cortland apples-makes really thick chunky applesauce
-1 bushel apples = 16 qts sauce
-Victoria Strainer worked well. We left the peels on, simmered apples on the stove with a bit of water then strained (next time add about 2" water to apples on stove, sauce was almost too thick)
-1/4 c sugar (or less) added to each 9x13 of fresh sauce
-SO GOOD-will definitely repeat this experiment

hard to remember when indi was this little & content to sit on a blanket ( :

Aaahhh, and no domestic chore is complete without a mess from my son it seems ( : We found him under the kitchen table eating sugar as fast as he could shove it in! There was no denying the guilt of  little miscreant as his footprints were in the sugar-Mom thought this was especially funny since she's now the Gma!
